Uhura

In 2020, Juneteenth acted as a day of rest and joy in

the midst of the uprising in Minneapolis following

the murder of George Floyd. The storyline of my mini-

comic Uhura reflects this and recognizes the

importance of Juneteenth.

Facing the reality of emotional burnout amongst social

unrest, Uhura realizes the importance of taking a

break and collective healing. The original mini-comic

was printed by Toxic Metal Press under their Black

Comic Artist Support scholarship and distributed for

free with crayons to youth at Northside block parties.

Uhura is still reprinted annually passed

out at Juneteenth events.
